Blog Post - November 11, 2018

We got off our 7-day Carnival Cruise today and wanted to spend another day in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We booked our hotel close to the airport, but right on the beach. The name of the hotel is the “El San Juan Hotel” Curio Collection by Hilton.

The hotel is beautiful with lush vegetation all over the grounds!

We got there a little before our checkin time, so they took our suitcases for us and we hung out by the pool. It took about 30 minutes and then our room was ready. On our way back in, we found this elegant staircase.

We got our keys to our room and were pleasantly surprised at how big and luxurious our room was. We got our stuff unpacked and got ready to head out to the beach. Julie got ready fast and was ready for her beach time!

We headed out past the pool and picked up our complementary beach towels from the 1st floor of the workout center. We then headed out to the beach where they had complimentary beach chairs waiting for us.

Isla Verde Beach and Hobie Beach:

Our hotel backed up to Isla Verde Beach. The views were amazing as we walked the beach. This view is looking south:

There were so many awesome condos right on the beach. It's so beautiful with the palm trees and soft sand.

We reached an area of the beach that became very narrow and we had to walk around a small outcropping of rocks to keep walking the beach. I love these slanted palm trees!

We loved Isla Verde and Hobie Beach. Our hotel, El San Juan, had complimentary beach chairs for us along with beach towels. We enjoyed both walking and laying out on the beaches of Puerto Rico!

Restaurants and exploring Historic San Juan:

We were hungry so we we went to the historic part of San Juan and walked around. As we were walking around, each restaurant had a sales person outside trying to convince us to try them out. We  ended up eating at Cafe Angel. We split the paella. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t order it again. It cost $24 for the food and two bottles of water.

We then walked around and went to a lot of gift shops. The cobblestone streets were pretty cool looking!

We saw this really cool party bike. Everyone rides a part of the bike and the person in the back steers the party bike.

We also got to take pictures in front of the “I love Puerto Rico” sign. It had just stopped raining, but we really wanted these pics.

We headed back to our hotel and walked the sidewalk to see what was around. We found a Burger King that was in Spanish. La Casa Del Whopper or The House of the Whopper.

We went back to our hotel and had a great night’s stay. We would highly recommend the “El San Juan Hotel”!

The next day we headed to the airport and headed back home. The views from our flight were spectacular. We will miss Puerto Rico.

Overall, we loved Puerto Rico and would highly recommend visiting this amazing island. One day was not enough!
