Slaughterhouse Beach, Maui - Hawaii
Blog Post - February 6, 2026
Slaughterhouse Beach is located on the northwest side of Maui and is an amazing beach.
The original name of the beach was Mokule’ia Beach and now there is a sign designating it at the parking lot. There used to be a Slaughterhouse located on the cliff’s edge, but the slaughterhouse buildings were torn down in the 1960’s so now all you see is a beautiful beach.
This beach has good snorkeling when the water is calm. In the winter months it is better known for its waves.
Google Maps still has it listed as Slaughterhouse Beach, but when you pull into the parking lot you'll see Mokule'ia Beach.
This is the view from the parking lot.
The parking used to be free, but now they have implemented paid parking for visitors and free parking for Maui residents.
The parking prices are outrageous for visitors. They don't let you pay by the hour. You have to purchase the whole day, which is $40. You can use this at a few other beaches too, but still $40 is a lot for parking. If you book your parking the day before, it is half price at $20. We learned that too late. This is the URL to purchase in advance:

After paying for parking, we headed over to the staircase that goes down to the beach. There were 2 portable toilets right before the staircase.
This is what the staircase looks like:
At the end of the stairs it turns into a dirt trail that takes you out to the beach.
We were there in February and the waves were rough. We still tried snorkeling, but the waves kicked up a lot of the sand and the visibility wasn't that good. We still saw some fish and some sea turtles here.
To show a comparison, we went to this same beach in November on a calm day and the snorkeling was great. This is what it looked like:
Here are some more aerial views of the beach.
Overall, we loved going to Slaughterhouse Beach. We would recommend going to this beach if you pay for parking in advance since it would only be $20 instead of $40. This is a great beach for snorkeling on a calm day.
