Blog Post - February 9, 2019

While we were visiting Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and decided we wanted to go snorkeling at the 2nd largest sea lion colony in the world.

We booked our excursion through Cabo Adventures.

Cabo Adventures picked us up from our hotel and took us to their headquarters in Cabo San Lucas. From there we got into one of their vans with our excursion group and traveled to La Paz, Mexico.

It's takes about 2 hours to get to La Paz.

We arrived at the Club Hotel Cantamar which has a marina. It's located just north of La Paz.

We boarded our luxury catamaran and headed out to the 2nd largest sea lion colony in the world.

On our way out, we spotted a lot of whales. It was so amazing to watch them.

We finally arrived at the sea lion colony and got onto smaller boats to get closer to the colony.

We jumped into the water and started snorkeling. We saw some scuba divers at the bottom with the sea lions.

We were amazed at the energy and how close the sea lions would swim near us.

We found a cave that we got to snorkel through too.

Then we saw a rock area where the sea lions were hanging out.

We finished snorkeling and got back onto the small boat and headed back to our catamaran.

Cabo Adventures then served us a delicious lunch. We were so hungry and this hit the spot.

It's so fun going on these adventures with Julie. She is up for any adventure!

We then headed to a small alcove where we got to go swimming and snorkeling. The water was amazing!

The price was $199 per person for the Sea of Cortez Wildlife and Snorkeling Adventure.

I filmed this myself, but we also bought the picture/video package so we could get the additional footage from our guide. That was $50 and given to us on a flash drive.

Total Cost Breakdown:

2 people: $398

1 Picture Package: $50

Tip for bus driver: $5

Total Cost: $453

Note: At the time, Cabo Adventures was running a special. If we booked 2 excursions with them, we would get the third one for free. So although we payed $448 for this excursion, we ended up getting the snorkel excursion for free. ($178 value for 2 people)

These are the things that I recommend you bring:

  • Cash for the picture package, tip for the bus driver, and snacks at the gas station.
  • Swimwear
  • Your own Mask and snorkel (they will provide them, but I always prefer to have my own)
  • Your own fins/flippers (They will provide them, but I like a perfect fit so I always bring my own)
  • Biodegradable/Eco-friendly Sunscreen
  • Go Pro Hero 8 Black video camera
  • Go Pro 3-Way Grip to hold the camera out in front of you.
