My LEVEL 8 Suitcase Review for the Luminous Textured 2-Piece Set (20" & 28")
I just tested a new set of suitcases on my latest trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands. This is my review on the LEVEL8 Luminous Textured 2-Piece Suitcase Set in Black. I put these suitcases through a real-world stress test on our international trip to Turks and Caicos.
This set includes a 20-inch Hardshell Carry-on and a 28-inch Hardshell Checked Suitcase. Here is my deep dive into how they performed.

First Impressions & Unboxing
The unboxing experience was impressive. LEVEL8 doesn't just toss these in a box; each suitcase comes with a high-quality protective cloth cover. Right out of the gate, you can feel the quality of the "Luminous Textured" finish. It’s a micro-diamond texture designed to resist scratches, which is a must-have for checked bags that get tossed around by airport handlers.
Setting Up the TSA-Approved Locks
One of the most important steps when you get new luggage is setting your security code. The LEVEL8 set features integrated TSA-approved combination locks.
How to set the lock:
-
Ensure the dial is at the factory default (0-0-0).
-
Press the reset button (a small hole near the dials) with a toothpick or pen until it clicks.
-
Set your new 3-digit code.
-
Slide the latch to the side. The reset button will click back out, and your code is set!
Interior Features & Packing Capacity
The interior layout is where this set shines. Both the carry-on and the checked bag feature a dual-compartment design:
-
Zipped Dividers: Both sides feature mesh zippered covers to keep your items from falling out when you open the bag.
-
Compression Straps: Inside the zipped compartments, there are adjustable straps to cinch down your clothes and maximize space.
-
Internal Pockets: Perfect for smaller items like chargers, passports, or toiletries.
On my trip, I was easily able to pack bulky snorkel gear, flip-flops, and multiple outfits while keeping everything organized and secure.
The Travel Test: Mobility & Durability
A suitcase can look great, but if the wheels fail, the trip is ruined. I tested these on four different surfaces:
-
Tile & Hardwood: They glide almost effortlessly.
-
Airport Carpet: Even fully loaded, the 360° spinner wheels didn't "drag."
-
Moving Escalators: The handles felt sturdy and stable.
-
The Trunk Test: Both the 20" and 28" bags fit comfortably together in a standard sedan trunk.
Performance in Turks and Caicos
After multiple flights and being handled through international baggage claim, the checked bag held up beautifully. The scratch-resistant texture did exactly what it was supposed to do—despite the usual "beating" bags take during international transit, it still looked brand new when I reached our villa.
The 20-inch carry-on fit perfectly in the overhead bin of the aircraft, and the telescopic handle made it easy to navigate through the crowded terminal.
The Verdict: Is it Worth It?
If you are looking for a sleek, "all-black" aesthetic that doesn't compromise on toughness, the LEVEL8 Luminous Textured Set is a fantastic investment. The wheels are some of the smoothest I’ve tested, and the interior organization makes packing (and repacking) a breeze.
