Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Kanab, Utah
Blog Post - September 7, 2025
Sandboarding and sand sledding at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park was so fun. It's located just outside of Kanab, Utah. We spent about 4 hours here and the time went by so fast.
The Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is located in Southern Utah.
From Kanab, Utah it is about a 28 minute drive. It's 20.5 mile drive.
This area is really remote and we saw cows out grazing.
As we got to the park, there is a big sign on the side of the road so you know where to turn.
We drove up to the visitor's center where we paid the entrance fee.
The Day-Use entrance fee was $15.
After we paid, we drove to the Visitor's Center parking lot and went inside to rent sandboards and sand sleds.
In the Visitor's Center we went over to the counter and rented 1 sandboard and 2 sand sleds. They cost $25 each to rent for the day. They also came with wax for the bottom of the board.
We also bought 2 pairs of Sand Goggles for $18.70 each. Those were really helpful at keeping the sand out of your eyes when wiping out and riding.
Lastly, I purchased a drone permit for $10 and filled out the paperwork so I could fly my drone in the State Park.
After getting everything we needed, we went back to our truck and drove to the parking lot with the observation deck and entrance for sandboarding.
To get there, you leave the Visitor's Center, make a right and drive to the first parking lot on the left.
This parking lot has nice public bathrooms, a covered pavilion, and a water spigot to rinse off after.
We walked the trail over to the observation deck first. This is what it looked like.
As you exit the observation deck, there is a sandy trail that takes you out to the sand dunes. We walked out to the highest sand dune we could find to start sandboarding and sand sledding.
You definitely want to bring plenty of water as the sand is deep and the sand dunes will get you out of breath each time you hike up.
We found that waxing the board before each run was the best way to get the most speed.
From the top of the high sand dunes you can see for miles. This is what the Coral Pink Sand Dunes look like.
Overall, we had a great time at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. When we went in September, the sand was fine to walk on barefoot, with socks, or shoes. We heard that in the summer it can be too hot to go barefoot. We had so much fun and will definitely go back to do this again.
