House on Fire, Bears Ears National Monument, Utah
Blog Post - July 5, 2025
The House on Fire Hike is just a 28 minute drive from Blanding Utah.
This hike is 2.1 miles out and back and is located in the Bears Ears National Monument in Southeastern Utah.
There are some amazing indian ruins that sit under a rocky overhang that looks like patterns of fire.

The drive from Blanding is only 23.6 miles. We loved driving through the red rocks in the mountain overpass.

When you're almost there, you'll make a right onto Arch Canyon Road.

This hike is a US Fee Site and you'll see the pull-off on the left hand side. There is a box that you pull out one of the envelopes and fill it out. You'll need to bring your own pen to fill it out. At the time we went, it costed $5 per person for a 1-day hiking pass. You fill out the envelope, put your cash in the envelope and drop it in the secured box.

After filling out our hiking day use pass, we drove 0.3 miles to the trailhead.
There is parking on the side of the dirt road.

We brought plenty of water for this 2.1 mile out and back hike. It gets hot in the summer time in southern Utah.

After parking, we walked over to the trailhead and walked down the dirt incline to start our hike.

When we went, the riverbed was completely dry. We crossed over the riverbed multiple times on this hike.

Along the way, we saw beautiful red rock landscapes and multi-colored lizards.

When you are almost there, you'll look up and see this rock overhang.
You will then see trail markers pointing you to make a right on the trail and head up to the House on Fire.

Where the trail ends, you walk up the red rock to the House on Fire indian ruins.

There is a large rock to the left of the indian ruins that has a walkway all the way through.

Overall, we had a great time hiking to the House on Fire. We went earlier in the day so the entire area with ruins was in the shade. If you go in the later afternoon, the sun lights it up even more. We would definitely do this hike again and highly recommend it.
