Olowalu Beach at Mile Marker 14, Maui, Hawaii
Blog Post -Ā February 16, 2026
Olowalu Beach at Mile Marker 14 is located right off of Honoapiilani Highway on the northwest side of Maui.
This narrow, but long stretch of beach has an amazing coral reef for snorkeling.
Mile Marker 14 is the general area, but you can park anywhere off of Honoapiilani Highway. We pulled off the highway and parked in the dirt/rocky area. Don't pull too far forward into the sand so you don't get stuck.
The sand is soft and is a mixture of gray, brown and white. We had plenty of room to lay out our towels.
We brought our own snorkeling gear and got into the water to start exploring. This reef creates a lot of different channels and sometimes we had to turn around and backtrack to keep exploring. We saw all sorts of fish and even a colorful eel.
You can see that we went way out and the water was still about 8 to 10 feet deep.
After snorkeling we got out and laid out on the beach letting the warm sun dry us off. Even though this beach is narrow, it has a long stretch of soft sand. We explored the beach and you can see from these aerial views that you could snorkel this huge reef multiple times and still not cover it all.
Overall, we had a great time snorkeling, exploring, and laying out at Olowalu Beach at Mile Marker 14 and definitely want to go back to explore more of the reef. We would highly recommend this beach on your next trip to Maui.
