The Grotto in Hornet Canyon is located in Farmington, Utah.

This beautiful hike takes you to a small grotto with a beautiful overhang with water cascading over it and a small waterfall.

This hike is 2.3 miles total out and back with 590 feet of elevation gain.

The trailhead parking lot isn't very far from I-15 in Farmington.

The parking lot is free and is made of gravel. The day that we went there were a lot of cars, but there were still plenty of parking spaces.

From the parking lot you can see the trailhead right next to a large white and yellow sign.

As you enter the trailhead, you will see a gate blocking the way. There is a little side trail that allows you to walk around the gate.

We then followed the trail till we got to a split in the trail.

At the fork in the trail we went to the left. Both trails will actually take you to the connecting trail, but the trail to the left is less steep.

You'll see a gate and there is a trail on the left side of the gate that takes you to the connecting trail.

We then followed the trail to the stream crossing.

As you get close you'll veer to the left to cross the stream.

We went in the month of May when the snow runoff is high. Later in the year the stream isn't as high. We got our shoes wet while crossing.

After crossing you go a short distance and make a right onto another trail.

This part of the trail is easy to follow, but has some steep drops. We never felt in danger, but it is a long way down.

Then we hit a section of the trail that was really overgrown. I wore shorts for this hike, but in hindsight I would wear hiking pants.

When you have about 0.32 miles to go you hit a fork in the trail. Both trails go to the Grotto. We went to the right to get there.

We hiked through another section of overgrown trail till we got to a stream. There was a wood plank to cross the stream and then we headed to the left.

As we were hiking we saw a small sign warning of poison ivy. Poison ivy has three leafs. We knew what to look for and didn't have any issues with it even wearing shorts.

We made it to the next marker and took the trail on the left side. It is only 0.19 miles to the Grotto from here. This is where there are steep sections of the trail. They have ropes to help you keep your balance.

We got past the steep section of the trail and hit the last market showing the Grotto is only 40 feet ahead.

As we entered the Grotto it has a small stream that runs through the middle and leads to a small waterfall. It also has an overhang that drips water too.
