Bonacord Beach, Long Island, Bahamas
Blog Post - November 10, 2025
Bonacord Beach has a protected cove that offers calm water and is great for snorkeling.
It's located down on the south end of Long Island in the Bahamas on the east coast just north of Clarence Town.
Google Maps doesn't have an official name so I looked at the Long Island History Project to see what the maps showed there.

This led me to the interactive map, which shows this area of Long Island as Bonacord. We had heard from the locals that this was called Bonacord Beach or Lowe's Beach. This map gave us the correct spelling for Bonacord.

From the Queen's Highway, we turned off onto the dirt road that goes to Bonacord Beach. This dirt road is rough and has some rocks you have to go over. We drove a Jeep and never had to put it into 4-wheel drive, but the higher clearance made the drive a lot easier (We went on a dry day). I would recommend driving a Jeep, truck, or SUV on this dirt road.
As we got to the end of the road, we parked on the side and walked out onto the beach.
As we walked out onto the beach, this is the view looking to the right or south. There is a large rock formation there.
We decided to head north first to explore the protected coves.
This is the view looking north towards the coves.
After exploring the first little cove, we took the short sandy trail to the larger protected cove. This is what it looked like.
As we walked out onto this beautiful beach and cove, we couldn't believe how clear and calm the water was. We got in the water and went swimming first and then snorkeling.
After swimming, snorkeling, and laying out on the beach we decided to go explore the south end of the beach by the big rock formation.
Overall, we had a great time at Bonacord Beach. We definitely want to come back and snorkel more of the coral reefs in the ocean. We didn't realize how many there were until after when we were looking at our drone footage. So even though the road was really rough to get here, we would definitely come back.

CHECKLIST:
These are the checklist items I recommend:
- Bring your own food and water.
- Bring a hat.
- Bring sunglasses.
- Bring reef safe sunscreen.
- A Jeep, truck, or SUV is recommended for this rough dirt road. We didn't use our 4-wheel drive, but it was nice having the high clearance.
- Bring your own snorkeling gear.
