The Mustang Cabin in Blanding, Utah
Blog Post - July 3 - 6, 2025
We did our first trip down to Blanding, Utah and stayed at this remote off-grid cabin called "The Mustang Cabin".
It's located at 405 Mustang Rd, Blanding, Utah 84511. You can rent this cabin on Airbnb at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1395831678910065150
Blanding is located down in southeastern Utah close to two National Parks and lots of amazing places to explore.

Arches National Park is located 1 hour and 28 minutes north. (80.4 miles)
Moab is located 1 hour and 18 minutes north. (75 miles)

Canyonlands National Park is located 1 hour and 17 minutes northwest. (67.4 miles)

Halls Crossing Marina at Lake Powell is located 1 hour and 52 minutes northwest. (97.4 miles)

Wilson Arch is a free short hike that is located 51 minutes north. (49.8 miles)

Lopez Arch View Point is located 48 Minutes North. (47.3 miles)

Church Rock View Point is located 38 Minutes North. (35.5 Miles)

One of our favorite hikes was the House on Fire Hike that is located 42 minutes southwest. (32.1 miles)

The drive to the House on Fire Hike was beautiful as you drive through the red rock of southern Utah.

This is what the House on Fire Hike looks like.

The Recapture Reservoir is only 11 minutes away. (5.4 miles) This is a great place to go paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, boating, and swimming.

As you get to the north end of Blanding where the Recapture Reservoir is located you turn east off of US Highway 191 onto Wibs Hill Road. You'll follow dirt roads for about 5 miles to get to the Mustang Cabin.

We followed the dirt road until we got to Mustang Road. We turned right heading south and followed it for 2.5 miles.
You'll know you're getting close when you see the log cabin with the blue roof.

When you pull up there are two different gates. You can go through either. We went through the closest gate.
You can see that there is a slight dip in the dirt road for drainage as you drive in.
You'll know you're there as you can see the sign for the Mustang Cabin.

There are herds of cattle in the area, so you'll see the sign to always close the gate after yourself.

The Mustang Cabin is a 3 Bedroom/1.5 Bathroom off-grid property. We had everything we needed with well water, solar power, propane gas, TV and internet access.
First, lets take a look at the outside of the cabin and this beautiful property.

You can see that they have a lot of solar panels and a shed with the batteries to store the energy. While we were there they added an additional battery to extend the amount of power you get through the night.

The back of the cabin has a porch and a door that goes into one of the bedrooms.

They even have room on the side to park your camper.

Next, we are going to go inside. As you walk up to the door, there is a keyless entry. You just punch in the code and the door unlocks.

As you walk in the first thing you see on the left hand side is a big screen TV.

The first room on the left is a bunkbed room. It is small, but can sleep 2 people.

There is a full size kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, oven, sink and a bar area with 4 bar stools. They installed a new microwave while we were there.

There is a large A/C unit and a large heater. We were there in the summer so we only used the A/C unit. This unit cooled off the entire cabin.

The living room has 2 very comfortable couches, a rug, and a game table. We had a great time hanging out here at night after a long day of hiking. We would play games and watch movies.

On the other side of the cabin there is a half bathroom, 2 full bedrooms, and a full bathroom.
This is what the half bathroom looks like.

The 2nd bedroom has a queen size bed, a comfortable chair, and breathtaking views.

The 3rd bedroom has a queen size bed, a comfortable chair, a door to the full bathroom and a door to the outside porch.

Lastly, we have the full bathroom with a sink, toilet, bathtub, and shower.

Overall, we had a great time staying at the Mustang Cabin and can't wait to go back. We are excited to explore Canyonlands National Park and this will be a great place to stay for our next trip.

Not only did we love this cabin, but loved the city of Blanding. We can't wait to go back.
