Blog Post - November 6 - 15, 2025

Julie and I just got back from an amazing anniversary trip to Long Island in the Bahamas and we stayed at the Serenity Beachfront Cottage.

This off-grid adults only property is very remote and the perfect place to unwind and spend time with that special someone in your life. This blog post is going to break down our review of the property and show you why we would go here over and over.

We booked this through VRBO.

This property is for adults only with a maximum capacity for 2 adults. That's why this is an amazing place for an anniversary trip or a honeymoon. The property also has a clothing optional policy since you are so isolated. You need to bring clothes to the beach as nudity is not allowed on the beaches in the Bahamas. We never saw anyone on the beach the entire time we were there, but you should have some clothes just in case.

Even though there was no air conditioning, the cross-breeze from sitting up on the hill right off the beach always kept us cool and it felt great.

There was only one other property on this beach farther down, but we didn't see anyone the whole time we were here.

There are some great rock formations right off the beach that break the waves and provide calmer water for great snorkeling.

This property is located on the island of Long Island in the Bahamas. Long Island is just southeast of the Exumas.

We flew into Deadman Cay's Airport on the south end of the island. We had already rented a Jeep that was waiting for us when we landed. We drove north on the Queen's Highway and turned east on Old McKie Road. This is a paved road that takes you up to the private entrance to the property.

As you get to the top of the hill, you will veer to the left and then make a right into the private property.

Once you turn onto the private road, you will follow it for 0.23 miles to get to the cottage. The road is mostly dirt and gravel, but there is a steep section that is paved. We rented a Jeep, but never needed to put it in 4-wheel drive.

As you come to the end of the road, you'll find a small parking lot and the Serenity cottage. There's plenty of room to turn around your vehicle to get back out.

The parking area is at the back of the cabin. You'll walk down the right side going down some rock steps and following the sidewalk to the front.

The front of the property has a large porch and patio area. There is a hammock and a large double lounge chair.

The front of the cottage has glass double doors with screen doors behind them so you can get good wind circulation.

There is a covered futon in the cottage that you take outside and put on the large double lounge chair.

There is also a picnic table so you can eat outside if you want. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off after a day at the beach. There is a small deck with 2 chairs with amazing oceanfront views.

From the porch there are colored pavers that take you to a great area to lay out. We would take the covered futon and lay it on the outdoor suspended double stack net/hammock and take in the sun and these beautiful views.

Next, we are going to go inside and I'm going to show you the inside of the cottage.

The dining area has a table and two benches. The cottage had a lot of games, puzzles, Scrabble, and books for entertainment. We had fun putting one of their puzzles together.

The Kitchen area has a refrigerator, freezer, cooking plate, and a sink. The refrigerator was perfect for the groceries for two people. There were plenty of pots and pans and dishes for cooking and meals. We cooked rice, chicken, eggs, and oatmeal using the cooking plate.

We loved that they provided clean filtered water in 2 large water tanks. We brought our own metal thermoses that we would fill up each day and take with us to the beach.

There is a digital meter in the kitchen under the counter by the wall that shows you how much solar power are in the batteries for use. It would normally stay at 100% during the day and the lowest it got down to was 94%. I would charge my drone batteries, laptop, phone, and GoPro batteries while cooking, running the fans, and the system handled it fine.

To the left of the meter are 2 outlets that you can use for charging.

Next to the dining area is a really comfortable chair and an area to store the covered futon which is secured with a bungee.

The back of the room has a comfortable bed with a fan above it. There is also a window with a screen that we would keep open for a cross breeze.

On the right side there is a bathroom with a toilet, sink, mirror, and shower. The bathroom has a sliding wooden door for privacy. There is a towel rack to hang your towels. The water in the shower would get warm and even hot during the day, but at night it would get luke warm at best. This didn't bother us as the water felt good on a hot day.

At night we would put on this wood lock to keep the screen doors closed. It was easy to put on and take off. We loved going out at night and looking at the stars and the moon. There is no light pollution and the views were amazing.

Next, I'm going to take you on a tour of the rest of the property and the beach.

When you go outside, there is a PVC pipe that drops down to hold the door open. This is important to know if it is windy.

The other side of the cottage has a sidewalk that takes you to an outdoor cooking area. There is a sink, a smoker, and a grill area. This is also where the solar panels are located.

Next, we are going to take the trail down to the beach. You walk out onto the patio and you'll see a sign just past the outdoor shower that says "Beach". There are pavers all the way down to the beach.

As you come out onto the beach there is a structure that you can hang a hammock. There are also 2 beach lounge chairs.

We had a great time laying out, swimming and snorkeling here. There is a rock formation that blocks the waves that was great for swimming and snorkeling. The water was crystal clear and we saw all sorts of fish.

We also loved going for long walks along this beach. We never saw anyone the whole time we were there. It felt like having paradise all to ourselves. There is one other house on the beach, but no one was staying there while we were there. This is what the beach looked like.

After spending a wonderful day at the beach we would take our private trail back up to the Serenity Cottage to eat and relax.

Overall, our experience of staying here was amazing. We truly felt like we had our own slice of paradise. We will definitely be coming back. We highly recommend staying here.
