Whelk Cay Beach, Long Island, Bahamas
Blog Post - November 11, 2025
Whelk Cay Beach is a remote beach on the east side of Long Island in the Bahamas. You have to travel a long dirt road to get there, but it is totally worth it.
We turned off the Queen's Highway on Harding Road and followed the paved road down to the 2 dirt roads. The road that goes straight takes you to Harding's Beach. We took the road to the right, which goes to Whelk Cay Beach.
We followed this long 1-lane dirt road down to the beach. I would recommend driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle just in case. We went on a dry day in a Jeep and we didn't need it, but this is a long dirt road to get there.
When you arrive at Whelk Cay you will need to veer to the right to go to the public parking. The main road goes to the houses.
We parked our Jeep and walked out to the beach. The day that we went turned out to be really windy and the water was really rough. We decided not to go snorkeling, but we could see that there were lots of reefs for good snorkeling here. We definitely want to come back on a calm day. There's also a big rocky area to explore. This is what the beach and rocky area look like.
Overall, we had a great time here despite the bad weather. We definitely want to come back on a calm and sunny day.
